Brazilian Wood Energy Meeting
Over the past years, the Brazilian industrial sector has been struggling with the rise in the price of energy. In many cases, energy bills reached twice their old value, and public policies do not seem to show any concrete signs of incoming price reductions. Since late 2014 and early 2015, the country has been going through the worst water crisis in its history, with alarmingly low levels in the main reservoirs.
This scenario has made the industry realize they are being held hostage by the current system, which uses water as its main power source. This fact resulted in increased interest in biomass as a source of energy, and it’s no wonder – Brazil is the country with the largest clean energy potential in the world.
In total, according to data gathered by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the country generates 138,258,525 KW, of which 27% stem from biomass, although only 11.9% of this figure comes from wood and other forest-generated residues. This percentage, however optimistic, does not represent the enormous potential of such clean, abundant, cheap and renewable raw materials.
The Encontro Brasileiro de Energia da Madeira (Brazilian Wood Energy Meeting) arose to promote and encourage the use of wood as a source of energy to power the country’s industries, presenting solutions for wood processing and burning, as well as discussing the public policies and legal matters involved in this process.
Target audience: Businessmen, technicians, students, professors and other professionals working in the energy and/or logging sectors.
